MGNREGA
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005, popularly known as MGNREGA, was an Indian social welfare measure that aimed to guarantee the 'right to work'. This act was passed on 23 August 2005 and was implemented in February 2006 under the UPA government of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh following the tabling of the bill in parliament by the Minister for Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh. The bill was originally known as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). In 2025, it was repealed by the Parliament of India after the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha passed the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act. The new legislation replaced MGNREGA with an updated rural employment and livelihood guarantee framework under the Ministry of Rural Development.
